Celebrating a Love for Reading: Students Attend William Allen White Book Award Ceremony!

We are thrilled to report on a wonderful trip that took 14 of our dedicated 4th and 5th-grade students to Emporia State University on Saturday, October 4th!

Under the supervision of Mrs. Finley and Mrs. Eleanor, our group attended the 73rd anniversary celebration of the William Allen White Children's Book Award. This special outing was a culmination of week of preparation: students dedicated their time to reading the nominated book Odder by Katherine Applegate, and me with Mrs. Finley every Wednesday during lunch to discuss the story in depth.

The celebration day itself was packed with exciting events. Our students started by meeting the author and getting their books signed at the prestigious William Allen White Library. They then attended the official award ceremony held at the Albert Taylor Hall (Plum Hall). This experience offered a fantastic opportunity for our young learners to explore a beautiful college campus. After a morning of excitement, the group enjoyed a celebratory lunch at Culver's before heading back to school.

What a truly great way to instill a lifelong love of reading and give our students a valuable day of college exploration! A big thank you to Mrs. Finley and Mrs. Eleanor for organizing this amazing educational trip.
